About the Archive

This archive is a collection of our class’s studies of Atlanta from multiple perspectives. These include, but are not limited to :

  • Atlanta as an emerging tech hub,

  • Atlanta’s free art scene,

  • Atlanta’s noir and criminal history,

  • Atlanta as a global community,

  • And Atlanta’s role in the zombie apocalypse.

Each group’s project involving these teams are displayed on this website. To the left is a navigation bar, where each link leads to a group’s project. Each project also has accompanying captions, which provide context to the thoughts of the creators. We hope that, through these projects, the reader is able to gain a newer, more nuanced perspective of Atlanta from sides of the city that are seldom discussed.

About the Project

The projects archived in this site follow a common structure. The members of each team choose one of the topics listed above for them to work on and dive into. Then, the group members take their findings on their chosen “sides” of Atlanta to compose a multi-modal display for their findings. These displays can be done through either Prezi or Canva, and must include the perspectives researched by all members of the group. Leading up to this project, we have had the opportunity to engage with multiple works from Atlanta’s modern history, which have worked to give us context for the various faces of the city.

About the Class

Through English 1102 A4 : Archiving Atlanta: Race, Technology, Nostalgia,

and a Zombie Apocalypse with Dr. Dutta, we have had the opportunity to engage with multimodal works that deal with multiple time periods in Atlanta’s history. We have engaged with short stories such as “Snowbound” and “The Prisoner”, novels such as Leaving Atlanta, internet archives and articles, infographics and comics, and videos and TV shows. We also work on creating media, through video, audio, and written projects, as well as our creative skills through our Flash-Writing Fridays, where we take an idea and write anything about it for 15 minutes. Engaging with these works and activities have all worked to develop our understanding of Atlanta as a city at the center of many facets of life, culminating in our showcase projects displayed on this website.
